Nick Berg arrests made: Kimmitt suspects "some culpability" :: The London News Review: "If it was soldiers, fighting a war, who massacred the wedding guests at Makr al-Deeb, then what is the status of the men who massacred Nick Berg? They would seem to be on the other side of the war. Does this make them soldiers? Does this make the killing of Nick Berg just one of the 'bad things' that happen in wars? Or is this the first war in history to be fought entirely in one direction?
According to President Bush, it was terrorists who beheaded Berg: The actions of the terrorists who executed this man remind us of the nature of the few people who want to stop the advance of freedom in Iraq.
So, are these people - if found guilty - going to be treated as POWs, terrorists, or 'illegal combatants'. Presumably the latter. It's much easier to deal with people when they're illegal combatants, as America found just as soon as it had invented the category. Illegal combatants don't fall under the Geneva Convention. They don't need pesky things like lawyers."
